And it might give good audio quality as well, if set up right, but I found it far from transparent.

I frankly was not impressed with the audio quality, but this vocoder is probably the most capable of gimmicky stuff if you're looking to go beyond standard vocoding, as it has a lot of VA synth stuff built into it as well. Software-wise, I tried downloading the AU version of Orange Vocoder a few weeks ago but all it installed AFAICT is a standalone app with a cumbersome interface that looks like a leftover from OS9 days. So given this, the microKorg (currently on blowout at most e-stores and/or with a hefty rebate) is your best bet, if you don't mind mini-keys. The one on the RADIAS has higher resolution and more capabilities but I did not find it practical live. Having owned both the Korg MS2000 and the RADIAS, I would recommend the former over the latter for live use, as its vocoder is easier to set up properly without feedback issues.

I don't listen to modern Western Pop music so am not sure what this new vocoding sound is that's all the rage, but I can't imagine it being much different from the vintage vocoding sounds.
